John Greene in runoff with Jimmie Brown for Council Place 7

John Greene III and Jimmie Brown made the runoff in the race for Hoover City Council
Place 7, according to unofficial results.
Greene received 1,058 votes, 39.9 percent. Brown received 903 votes, 34 percent. Rusty
Creel finished third with 692 votes, 26.1 perĀcent, Birmingham News reporter Mike Cason tells us.
The runoff will be Oct. 7. It was the only contested race in Hoover.
Hoover chamber golf tournament rescheduled due to weather

Bad weather has prompted the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce to reschedule its golf tournament that was supposed to be held today at the Riverchase Country Club.
Because of the threat of heavy rain and thunderstorms today from Tropical Storm Fay, the 13th annual tournament now will held on Sept. 24, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, according to an e-mail sent out by chamber Executive Director Bill Powell.
State health care committee wants more information on Hoover hospital plans

A state health care committee today declined to back either Baptist Health System's or Brookwood Medical Center's proposed amendments that would have paved the way for getting state approval for a hospital in Hoover, Birmingham News reporter Anna Velasco tells us.

At 6 feet, 1 inch, Liz Cochran of Helena stood head and shoulders above 20 other pageant competitors Saturday at Spain Park High School. The judges thought so, too, and handed the 20-year-old Helena woman the Miss Hoover title at the city's second annual pageant sponsored by the Hoover Area Chamber of Commerce, Birmingham News reporter Liz Ellaby tells us.

More poverty in Hoover means tripled federal money for schools

Higher rates of poverty have spurred additional federal funding for schools in Hoover and other neighboring communities, Birmingham News reporter Tiffany Ray tells us.
Hoover's allocation of Title I funds has more than tripled, from $172,000 last year to $731,000 this year, according to Alabama Department of Education data.
As a result, Hoover administrators are expanding Title I programs, which were funded only at Green Valley Elementary last year, to four additional elementary schools: Gwin, Rocky Ridge, Shades Mountain and Trace Crossings, Ray reports in this week's edition of The Hoover News.
Masters Games district competition coming to Hoover Rec Center next week
